Speak’s Guide To Style And The Best Labor Day Ever

In the world of hip-hop, standing out isn't exactly easy. With a proverbial power center where everyone dresses and sounds the same, making your own way can often be both a doomed and uphill battle. But the task isn't daunting for Speak, one of Los Angeles's rising stars in the industry. Not many people know much about the rapper at this point in time, but this doesn't bother him. For the most part, they either know his work on Kreayshawn's "Gucci Gucci", his tangential relationship to Odd Future (Matt Martians and Syd Tha Kid are friends and producers of his), or his hair, which he even acknowledges has taken on a life of its own.

For those who are in fact fans of his music and his first LP, Inside Out Boy, it's easy to note his fans love him. They not only bump his funk-inspired hip-hop tunes, but admire the rapper as a beacon of hope for those who wish to live life by their own rules; for those which the phrase "I don't give a fuck" isn't a trendy colloquialism but a real life mantra.

Speak's wardrobe is also one of a kind, inspired by a mix of local Los Angeles culture, specifically Mexican and Japanese, to East Coast preppy wares of the 1990's — washed out color palettes, boat shoes, tennis apparel, and lots and lots of Polo and Tommy Hilfiger swim trunks, which he wears every chance he gets.

It's this unique style, which permeates every aspect of Speak's life, that made us turn to him for not only style advice, but with the holiday right around the corner, how to have an awesome Labor Day. After all, if there is one thing Speak does the same as mainstream hip-hop stars today, it's party hard.
