Kanye West Gave Streetwear’s State Of The Union Address Last Night

Pusha T's My Name Is My Name listening party was last night and no, I was not there, which is bullshit. First of all, the function took place at the same exact spot where I interviewed Hiroki from visvim AND where I saw the Duckie Brown runway show this past week, which has gotta count for something, right? Apparently not, but really, going to these types of things is just depressing. Like, even if I were to get inside, it would have been a huge clusterfuck and I would have just been leering at people, asking myself how all these dudes who clearly paid full price for Pyrex shirts are vibing with King Push, while my ass wouldn't even be allowed to dap dude's weed carrier without getting sonned by some brolic security goon.

Now that my bitter rant is out of the way, let's talk about how Yeezy showed up and said some wild shit because that's what he does. His typical rantings were made even better given the fact that he was all sorts of white girl wasted. How do I know that? Because he mumbled some Swaghili before declaring, "I'm on the Goose right now!" This is a statement both you and I have previous heard uttered by girls in high school whose parents are away on vacation.

What were the main takeaways from Kanye's spazz? Well, in Ye's mind, Pusha T is the cultural mitochondria of hip-hop and street fashion. You know, the powerhouse and shit, if I'm remembering 10th grade biology correctly. In Kanye's own words, "Everything is Pusha T. Pyrex Vision, that's Pusha T...For everybody stealing the culture, for all niggas trying to do their camo prints at MAGIC this is for fucking Pusha T. All these niggas trying to extend their muthafucking T-shirts, trying to throw numbers on the back of their shit, this muthafucking Pusha T." The entire thing was basically streetwear's state of the union address.

Virgil Abloh's Pyrex Vision is evidently inspired by Pusha T's rhymes, even though I'm pretty sure Juelz Santana uttered the words first. And Pusha T, an early adopter of Bape, apparently also started the whole wearing camo thing, which made Kanye very upset when he saw mad camo and shirts with numbers on the back at the Magic trade show in Las Vegas. Leaving the fact that Kanye goes to Vegas trade shows alone for a second, I think it's important to note that Pusha T literally just walked in Mark McNairy's runway show wearing a pair of camo pants. Adding another layer of ridiculousness to this entire thing, Mark is the same guy who parodied the silliness of Pyrex Vision with his own "Tupperware" flannels last season. Is it safe to assume Kanye has no idea who Mark McNairy even is? Are we totally overanalyzing this? Both are definite possibilities.

Although Hell Hath No Fury is one of my favorite albums ever, “Mr. Me Too” came out in 2006. “Dipset Anthem” came out in 2003 and Juelz actually says the words “Pyrex vision” on it.
