One of our favorite stores, Union Los Angeles, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of their Superstar collaboration with Adidas, made another Superstar. This time it's brown and has some contrast stitching. You guys have a favorite Adidas Superstar memory? Mine involves Blink 182 and a girl.
Many moons ago, 89X, Detroit's alternative radio station threw a concert called "The Night 89X Stole Xmas." It was a hot ticket because Blink 182, Oasis AND Ben Harper were all on the bill. Ya boy's dad, who is obviously the shit, laced him with, like, 4 tickets and the squad was rolling deep with highly coveted floor tickets. We arrived at the venue and we're just waiting for Ben Harper to wrap up playing that lap guitar thing when my buddy was like, "Ay look, there's those girls we always stare at from the fancy all girls school where they get to study abroad for a semester." Side note: Girls who study abroad in high school are way doper than girls who just spend their semesters in metro Detroit. Anyways, this one girl was like, "Hey!" and enthusiastically waved us over to their peasant seats. She was like, "Damn, you guys got floor tickets? So dope. I tried, but I didn't get back from Berlin in time." That's when I was like, "Tell you what, we'll sneak you guys down one by one." It was a pretty genius plan because I'd take three tickets, meet the girls in the concourse and they could just present the floor tickets to the brolic security guy that was guarding the venue's floor like it was the White House or some shit. And it totally fucking worked!
By the time Blink 182 was playing, I was standing next to a girl who spent a semester abroad in Berlin and wore Mavi jeans and Adidas Superstars and a tank top and it was the best moment of my young life up until that point. Our arms even touched a couple of times. After the concert, she gave me a hug, said thanks and then leaned up on her tiptoes and said, "Maybe we can hang out sometime...just us." AND WE DID. Like, seven times. So, when given the opportunity, ditch your friends at a concert to hang out with a girl wearing Adidas Superstars because you might spend a glorious night several weeks later at a laser light show at the planetarium and it will be lit.
