Teen Attempts To End It After Failed Search For “The Perfect Selfie”

Fellas, fellas, fellas, while we are vain as fuck here at FP and blatantly value things like physical appearance and clothes way more than we should, not to mention also stress the vast importance of flourishing on social media, it seems as if some of y'all gotta relax. Time reports that 19-year-old Danny Bowman recently tried to ether himself after becoming totally addicted to taking selfies. Once realizing there is no such thing as the "Perfect Selfie," he decided his only option was to stop living. Luckily, he survived and is now receiving treatment, but TURN DOWN, DUDE. Pursuing the perfect selfie is like trying to figure out what "Good" and "Bad" are, minus the intellectual stuff.

This discussion has lead to some psychiatrists putting forth the notion that the selfie, as a practice in itself, is toxic as merely another outlet for which young men and women to become extremely self-critical of their appearance. Body image issues are certainly at play here, but I think the real problem here is people taking their selfie game wayyyy too seriously. Selfies should be fun. Yeah, you want to look good, but no one likes a person that spends all their time snapping 'Grams of themselves. That shit is crazy lame and should not be endorsed by anyone ever. Like, all you need to do is take a shot in the mirror every once in a while or throw up some deuces and Snapchat it to your friends before calling it a day. Maybe even draw some sunglasses on yourself to make it extra chill.

I think it’s worth mentioning he had major psychiatric problems. It’s not like the act of the selfie poisoned his mind.
